The 50th Year Project

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 04, 2006
Saturday, In New Orleans, Voodoo Part Two

Yep, the rash was already climbing up and down my arms and just about everywhere else. It wasn’t even noon and I thinking about how much I’d like to cut my limbs off, Black Knight/Monty Python style.

Picked up the Good Guys over the carnival area; lead singer in pink spacesuit alien thing. Their website/My Space says they are lounge-pop-metal. Personally, you could have fooled me. Lounge lizards melting music was more like it. Fun stuff and, again, for being so early in the morning they rocked.

Missed the Zydepunks last year – wasn’t going to happen this year. Call it Cajun-Yiddish-Hip-Hop, with accordion solos or simply call it… fun. Glad I was able to take in most their set this time.

Also missed Spoonfed Tribe last year. Trancey, spacey music with very interesting vocals. A sustained vocalization through a vintage microphone and then funneled through a series of effects pedals, layered on top of some killer drums and bass. Your typical art rock-oral exciter-blowjob.

The mixed up NooMoon/Pain Tribe/Worms Union collective thing had me pretty confused; no idea who was who and what was really suppose to happen. But that, of course, is the point. The “parade” turned out to be fairly amazing, with several fire breathers, deep in the genitals drumming and a remarkable display of bodily suspension and piercing. Not one for the suburbs, Mister and Mrs. America.

For end of my first evening, we have The Red Hot Chili Peppers – who were exactly that: the Peppers. They played all of the old favorites, did a “tip of the porkpie hat” mini-set with The (Original) Meters, finishing up with a killer Give It Away.

Indeed, a great way to finish the night. The ride home on the trolley held that certain sway, you know?
